Tips for Colds During the Season Change

Monday, November 16, 2020 Natalie Salem

This year has been rough on all of us in terms of sickness. While realizing that there's a pandemic happening, allergies, colds, and the flu are still out there and can make you feel miserable! As the weather shifts between hot and cold and back again, you may get a cold or feel the oncoming of sickness. If you are one of the unlucky ones, here are some tips I found that can help improve your symptoms:

  1. Hot lemonade and honey – I’ve never been a tea drinker, so I had to find something that would soothe my throat and found that warming up some lemonade and adding honey made me feel a lot better. Honey is a well-known remedy to help soothe a sore throat with the lemonade acting as a Vitamin C boosted base.
  2. Vitamin C – Whether you take the supplement, drink orange juice, or take an Emergen-C/Airborne; Vitamin C can help you boost your immune system and fight off your cold faster.
  3. Lots of rest – you may want to power through a cold because “it isn’t that bad” but your body is fighting off an invader and needs the extra rest. Take it easy and sleep or binge-watch your favorite show on Netflix or Hulu. It’s better not to overexert yourself when your body is fighting off a virus. It’s already working hard, help it by laying low.
  4. Gargle with salt water – gargling with salt water can help to loosen mucus in your throat from the postnasal drip and soothe your sore throat.

Hopefully, you don’t get sick this year, but if you do try some of these tips to help fight the sickness. Your body will thank you!
