Benefits of Daily Runs

Friday, November 1, 2019 Natalie Salem

As Fall encroaches and the dreaded thought of winter approaches, the last thing that’s on your mind is running. You either love it or you absolutely hate it, but running does have many health benefits, especially daily running. With Turkey Trots and other fun-filled runs and races coming up, running daily can certainly help you obtain your goals for those runs and races. Here are some benefits of running daily:

  1. Running makes you happier. That’s right, I said it makes you happier. When you run, your body releases endorphins that give you a “happy feeling”, this has been linked to lowering anxiety and depression.
  2. Running helps you stay in shape. By running you’re exercising and burning calories-- which helps you to lose weight and get into better shape. The best part is, you don’t even have to be going fast, a comfortable paced run for 30 minutes a day can burn calories during your run and continue even after you have finished running.
  3. Running can even curb your appetite. If you drink water right after you finish a run, you are less likely to be hungry after your run. If you don’t drink water, your dehydration can aid in your hunger causing you to overeat and gain back some of the calories you lost during your run.

If those reasons weren’t enough to convince you why you should run daily, then hopefully this fact will:

  1. Running adds years onto your lifespan. Even a 30-minute run, 5 days a week can give you longevity. Smokers can even add on another 2.6 years of life.

Running can help you overcome a lot in your life and give you time to think through and process stress from your day. I know it’s greatly helped me in my life to make some big changes. It just takes one week to start and then the rest is history and is in great shape.
