The Benefits of a Standing Desk

Tuesday, June 2, 2020 Natalie Salem

As so many of us are working from home nowadays, I’m finding myself missing my desk. Yes, you read correctly, I'm missing my desk that I can stand and sit at depending on my preference for the day. I find my back aches all day after sitting slouched in a chair. Standing desks are extremely beneficial for not only your productivity but for your body as well. Some additional benefits of standing desks are:

  1. Reduce back and neck pain
  2. Lower your risk of weight gain and obesity – by standing instead of sitting to work, you can burn an extra 50 calories an hour.
  3. Lower Blood sugar levels – in recent studies those workers who stood after lunch were able to reduce the normal post-meal blood sugar spike compared to those who sat during lunch.
  4. May lower your risk of heart disease – studies have found that prolonged sedentary time has the potential to increase your risk of heart disease by up to 147%!

Staying healthy is a priority during these times so do what you want by standing more while you work.
