Employee Spotlight: Debra Kay

Thursday, March 21, 2024 Shana Watson

Meet Deb, a friendly face with over three years of dedicated service at OSEA. Her role at OSEA is primarily centered around training on various topics derived from her extensive education and work background. With a history spanning over 40 years in Chemical Manufacturing, Deb brings a wealth of knowledge in projects, processes, maintenance, production, logistics, safety, and all facets of manufacturing and operational excellence. What sets OSEA apart for her is the opportunity to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Meeting people with different viewpoints and perspectives not only enriches her professional experience but also fuels her collection of stories, which she usually integrates into her training sessions.

For Deb, the essence of a fulfilling career lies in pursuing one's passions wholeheartedly. Her advice to newcomers who are just starting out: "Don't pick a career, choose a passion, and you will never work a day in your life."

Beyond the workplace, Deb finds joy in traveling. Whether it's by foot, car, bike, motorcycle, bus, train, airplane, or boat, she is always up for an adventure. A fun fact about Deb is that although she is an only child, she has made hundreds of men and women her brothers and sisters throughout her lifetime.

As a nature enthusiast, Deb gravitates towards local spots near water bodies. Oceans, lakes, rivers, creeks, or ponds – wherever there's water, Deb finds solace.

Speaking fluently in another language has always been a desire of Deb’s. Despite dedicating five years to studying Spanish in school, her linguistic repertoire remains limited to the phrase ‘Dos cervesas por favor’! While it may not be particularly helpful in business settings, it has proven to be helpful during her all-inclusive getaways in Cancun.

In addition to her professional achievements, Deb's proudest accomplishment resonates close to home. As a single parent during her children's teen years, she finds immense pride in their success and happiness as adults.

In conclusion, Deb shows dedication, passion, and a thirst for knowledge both in and out of the workplace. Her journey at OSEA continues to inspire colleagues and newcomers alike, making her an invaluable asset to the team.
